Alison Brannen is a Toronto artist working in clay for 20 years. She is the recipient of several ceramic awards and has exhibited at the Art Gallery of Burlington, Craft Ontario, Oeno Gallery, Todmorden Gallery and Fusion Fireworks Exhibitions. She holds an MFA in printmaking and photography from the University of New Mexico Albuquerque, a BFA in painting from York University, and a BEd from University of Toronto.
Alison brings a painterly, experimental approach to her large decorative ceramics. Her vessels are painstakingly hand burnished with terra sigillatta and fired with woodchips and oxides in a special saggar chamber. The flames mark the surface in unusual ways in this atmospheric firing. Alison is accomplished in the production of wheel thrown and hand-built techniques an uses Kintsugi the art of Japanese gold repair in many of her pieces.
