I am a Toronto-based glass artist and potter. The natural world inspires my work, from the framed fused glass irises, seahorses and turtles to my shadow box waves. In many of my pieces, the art escapes its frame. This helps to create a feeling of motion and movement in my work. I have been a working artist for more than 20 years, beginning as a potter. I spent years training in the Japanese method, throwing a cylinder until I perfected the form. I made my own signature glazes and sold my functional line at shows across Ontario. Ten years ago I began working with fused glass and this is now my focus. I also work in pate de verre, a technique of glass casting that combines my love of glass with my expertise at the pottery wheel. These elegant, sugar-like sculptures incorporate surprising industrial elements like nails and barbed wire.
